CINCINNATI (August 17, 2007) – The Cincinnati Kings professional soccer team is donating $10,000 to the Mauritania flood victims. The West African nation is the native home of the Kings' owner, Yacoub Abdallahi.
“The floods have devastated parts of Mauritania,” said Abdallahi. “With the dry conditions, it does not take much rain for flooding to happen that can wash away people's homes. The Cincinnati Kings are saddened by this devastation.”
According to news reports, about 3,000 families have been displaced by the floods and are in need of food and medicine. Two people are known to have died and 25 more are missing. The town of Titane and the region around it were the hardest hit with about 10,000 displaced people.
Donations of non-perishable food items and clothing can be sent to: Attn: Yacoub Abdallahi Sidya; Netland; BP 1017; Nouakchott, Mauritania. The phone number is +222-632-1010.
Abdallahi was born and raised in Mauritania. He came to the United States to go to college. After starting at Xavier University, he transferred to Northern Kentucky University where he played soccer. He is the sole owner of the Cincinnati Kings.
